I call it Red Yellow Lentil Dhal as I use red lentils but the dhal will turn completely yellow because of the turmeric in this recipe. It’s personally one of my favourite dishes especially during winter as it got so much flavour, heat and good ingredients.

Well worth a visit! My favourite coffee shops in London…
I love all these independent, little coffee shops and cozy cafés in London and want to share a list of my absolute favourites. Do you like a good morning coffee, an espresso after lunch, a flat white in the afternoon that keeps you going? Or an iced coffee on a hot summer day? No matter what you like best, check out the following places.
Continue readingThai Cauliflower and Aubergine Curry
If you like a good Thai curry as much as I do, try this creamy cauliflower and aubergine curry served with a red wild rice from the Camargue region. The rice not only has a lovely, deep red colour, its nutty taste and naturally chewy, slightly sticky texture goes very well with the spicy, coconut milk-based sauce.
Continue readingOvernight Carrot Bircher Muesli
I love carrot juice and a good bircher muesli, so I had to try this and it turned out very delicious that I want to share it with all of you. Prepare the night before and enjoy the next morning – a very healthy and nutritious way to start your day.
Continue readingBanana Bread
It probably is one of my most favourite things for breakfast. Fresh baked banana bread – plain, with raw honey or red berries jam. Try this recipe without adding any butter or sugar but using coconut oil and raw honey.
Continue readingCommunal tables and sharing dishes at Ottolenghi
Yotam Ottolenghi! I’m a big fan of not only his food but also the concept and design of his delis and restaurants. On the one hand everything is kept in white with some wooden highlights which creates a very elegant dining atmosphere, on the other hand the communal tables, sharing dishes and food counter make it very casual and relaxed. It allows people to really come and be together with some excellent food and a good bottle of wine. Ottolenghi Islington – the flag-ship and proper restaurant in the north of London – is a great spot for after work or weekends in a smaller or bigger group. We started with the roasted aubergine with turmeric yoghurt, one of Ottolenghi’s signature dishes. Here with pickled radish, some spring onions and almonds on top. I’m always impressed by how perfectly he mixes ingredients and spices from Middle East with Mediterranean and Asian flavours.
The pan fried sea bass with avocado and jalapeño salsa was beautifully presented, perfectly cooked and full of flavour.
If you see the counter with all the freshly baked cakes and tarts you’ll understand that the dessert wasn’t an easy choice. In the end it was the lemon zest and strawberry cheesecake which was absolutely delicious but I’ll definitely come back for the apple and sultana cake with maple icing.
