Lovely breakfast at Skinny Legs & All
It’s getting winter in the most beautiful city in the world. Nothing better than starting a chilly and rainy day with a hot infusion of ginger, lemon, mint, cinnamon and honey. A tea so simple but full of good ingredients and definitely warming you up. Skinny Legs & All – Luxury Café is a lovely place for breakfast and light meals during the day. From freshly baked pastries and breads, home made smoothies and lemonades, seasonal fruits and cereals to hot dishes – the café in Loop Street offers all you need. If you like to start your day with something sweet, try the home made toasted banana bread with whipped cream and raspberries on the side or their own creation of bircher muesli topped with seasonal fruits.
Communal tables and sharing dishes at Ottolenghi
Yotam Ottolenghi! I’m a big fan of not only his food but also the concept and design of his delis and restaurants. On the one hand everything is kept in white with some wooden highlights which creates a very elegant dining atmosphere, on the other hand the communal tables, sharing dishes and food counter make it very casual and relaxed. It allows people to really come and be together with some excellent food and a good bottle of wine. Ottolenghi Islington – the flag-ship and proper restaurant in the north of London – is a great spot for after work or weekends in a smaller or bigger group. We started with the roasted aubergine with turmeric yoghurt, one of Ottolenghi’s signature dishes. Here with pickled radish, some spring onions and almonds on top. I’m always impressed by how perfectly he mixes ingredients and spices from Middle East with Mediterranean and Asian flavours. The pan fried sea bass with avocado and jalapeño salsa was beautifully presented, perfectly cooked and full of flavour. If you see the counter with all the freshly baked cakes and tarts you’ll understand that the dessert wasn’t an easy choice. In the end it was the lemon zest and strawberry cheesecake which was absolutely delicious but I’ll definitely come back for the apple and sultana cake with maple icing.
Dinner Night high up at Sushisamba
Dinner with a view at Sushisamba. The restaurant is on the 39th floor of Heron Tower which gives you an incredible view of London. The location with its terrace, bar and dining area is unique and guarantees an unforgettable evening. Stunning presentation of the Coconut Ceviche and Chucumber cocktail.We started with a Yellowtail carpaccio with jalapeño and lemongrass vinaigrette. The rice cakes filled with ice cream and hot white chocolate sauce are delicious. Out of the six different flavors the black sesame and coconut ice pops were outstanding. We finished the night with a second round of cocktails and an exotic fruit salad – something very simple but definitely an eye-catcher.
